Why is it so rare for women to gather in a circle

Why is it so rare for women to gather in a circle and be real with each other? Who taught us that it was unsafe to speak freely, to show up as our unfiltered selves?

We’ve been conditioned—from personal experiences, media, and even reality TV—that women’s circles are places of competition and mistrust.

And if you’ve ever been burned for going against the grain, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

I’ve felt it too. Speaking up about the obvious truth that no one wanted to acknowledge. And I paid the price.

But here’s what I’ve learned—the people who shy away from authenticity and tough conversations aren’t my people. And that’s okay.

Real connection starts with your connection with yourself.

You want to gather with women who are real? Who show up unfiltered? Then you need to do the work yourself first.

Hurt people hurt people, and until you’ve healed your own wounds, it’s hard to create a space of trust and authenticity. That’s the reality.

Recently, I spoke at an event for the @womensnetworkaus about “Authentic Connections.” It wasn’t about networking or surface-level pleasantries. It was about creating spaces where women could show up as their whole selves—no masks, no judgment. A place where the conversation was real because the people at the table were real.

What do I mean by "real"? They were prepared to take off their armor (aka labels, titles, jobs etc) and allow themselves to be truly seen as they are.

One woman said something that resonated deeply: “Everybody deserves a seat at a table where they can speak freely and truly be themselves.”

And I believe that too. But to create those spaces, we have to be those people—safe, healed, and whole. That’s where the ripple starts.

Living your purpose? Then YOU know—it’s not something you do; it’s simply who you are.

The other day, I listened to @megandallacamina share how she connected the breadcrumbs that led to her work in @womenrising.co For her, those breadcrumbs were always there, guiding her, and when she saw the pattern, it clicked. Her work wasn’t a choice—it was her.

I’ve found that’s true for so many of us. Purpose-led individuals don’t clock in and out. What we do is just a natural extension of who we are. To stop would mean we’re not in alignment, and that’s just NOT how we live life.

Last night, I brought together 12 women who understand that. These women constantly hold space for others—leaders, visionaries, women who don’t just show up; they create.

I wanted to flip the script and hold space for them.

Now, here’s the thing: we value our time greatly and are intentional about where we spend it.

We know that saying yes to one thing means saying no to something else.

So, when these women took a few hours on a weeknight to come together, it wasn’t just another event. It meant something. It was something they valued, and so they actively sought IT out.

We didn’t gather for small talk. We dove into the topic of #Legacy — what we’re building, why it matters, and how we can elevate each other.

It was raw, real, and deeply inspiring.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” - so true.

The women in that room didn’t come to move fast—they came because they’re in it for the long haul. They get that coming together with the “right” people that match our energy—sharpens us and takes us further.

By the end of the night, we were all leaving with more energy, more clarity—because when you’re seen, and you hold space for others, it amplifies what you’re already doing.

That’s how legacies are built.

When high-achieving women tackle an escape room, you know it’s going to get intense…

I was one of these women as I blindly (literally, I was blindfolded) walked alongside a group of women from CUB Club of United Business into an escape room.

Why? Because if you want to meet interesting people, you have to DO interesting things.

We were ready to crush it and were certain that we would escape with time to spare, right?

Well, not so fast.

Our banter highlighted that we each valued Achievement, so the pressure was on (self-inflicted).

We tackled the clues like pros, each of us bringing our unique strengths to the table.

‣ The quiet one? Puzzle-solving wizard.
‣ The focused one? Secret electronics expert (no, really).
‣ The chatty one? The connector.
‣ Me? I kept everyone on track and focused on the end goal.

With 15 minutes left, we hit the final clue. Victory was so close we could taste it.

But no matter how hard we tried, that last puzzle wouldn’t crack. Achievement? Almost. Escape? Not quite.

That’s when it hit me—when the pressure’s on, it’s not the degrees or the job titles that matter. It’s your ability to lean into your team’s hidden strengths.

We need to look at this with teams: uncover those untapped strengths, understand what drives each person, and ensure they perform when it counts.

Here’s how you can apply that in your own teams:

‣ Forget the titles – Pressure reveals what people do, not what their resume says.
‣ Embrace the quirks – The unexpected strengths often make the biggest difference.
‣ Create a safe zone – Pressure can bring out brilliance or block it. Make sure your team knows they can step up without fear.
‣ Don’t go it alone – Collaboration is your best friend. Trust your team’s strengths.

Next time you’re in a high-pressure situation, ask yourself: Are you really using everyone’s strengths or just leaning on their job titles and what you think they can do?

Change is never easy—whether I was moving solo,

Change is never easy—whether I was moving solo, with kids, or on the big expat package (which, by the way, only gave me better housing, not fewer challenges).

The secret? Mindset.

Moving isn’t about running from toxic jobs or relationships (though, let’s be honest, sometimes that’s a win). It’s about seeing each move as a fresh start.

In Australia, 40% of people move every five years, but most don’t go further than down the street.

Me? I’ve always craved the adventure of a new challenge—while my four siblings all live within 5 km of each other!

In Europe, crossing borders is second nature. Different languages and cultures are just a short drive away. It’s a whole other mindset. And believe me, I’ve had my share of “aha” moments.

In Tokyo, if you weren’t early, you were late. Thailand? Time’s more of a suggestion.

Indonesia? Half the office vanished during prayer, leaving the phones ringing off the hook.

India? Dinner at 10 p.m. (which meant I’d sleep before supper).

And in Holland? Shared naked saunas with colleagues—totally normal.

The lesson? Perspective is everything. It’s not about avoiding change, but leaning into it.

Life gets a whole lot easier—and more fun—when you embrace what’s different.
